Yankton Community Library
PC/Internet Access Information
The Library maintains 14 PCs for in-house patron use. A variety of color and laser printers are also available along with flatbed scanners for pictures and print. All PCs are connected to the Internet via high-speed access. We also have wireless 54/125 mbps access along with wireless printing available. Printing is 10¢ per page, color/BW. Additionally, the PCs have lots of software installed for word processing (Office 2003 - Word, Publisher, Powerpoint, Frontpage,Excel and Access) Internet web searching, and children's learning programs. All PCs are available free-of-charge; however, two PCs are used on a pre-scheduled basis while others are first-come, first-served. Please call (668-5275) to schedule a PC. During peak use-times, Library staff reserve the right to displace PC users based on a priority use schedule: searching the library catalog; research/school work/test taking; using word processor; other (e-mail/games/etc.)
PC Classes - All PC instruction classes are FREE, but you must call (668-5275) to pre-register. All classes are beginning level and relate to the use of PCs in the library.
This list of Internet providers is brought to you as a public service of the Yankton Community Library. Currently, the YCL provides Internet access through a cable modem (728kps) connection from PraireWave. Not all ISP providers provide service in the Yankton area. Use the list below carefully. Call the ISP or visit their website and ask questions pertaining to the four factors mentioned above and compare. Access rates/prices are constantly changing, ranging from $9.95 to $25.95 and up. Many companies have a basic rate with standard access speed and also offer a higher speed (like 2X or 5X) access for more money coupled with amenities like antivirus, antispam and pop-up blocker software as well as more e-mail space or multiple e-mail addresses/website hosting.
