Composed of five mayoral/city commission-appointed positions, the Yankton Library Board of Trustees is a purely volunteer, unpaid governmental body. Board members must live within the (Yankton) City limits. One member is a City Commission representative and another is a County Commission representative. Currently, Yankton County maintains a Contract for Library Services and Board representation is desirable. Board appointments are for three (3) years, renewable by appointment for another contiguous two-year term. The Board is responsible for hiring/firing/evaluating the Library Director as well as establishing the yearly budget and setting all policies. Meetings are held monthly at the Library, on the second Wednesday of every month.. The public is welcome to attend any/all meetings; all meetings will be posted at least 48 hrs. before the meeting start time in the local news media and at the library.
